The guide is primarily aimed at central and local health care providers, health personnel training institutions, health care institutions and medical staff. It can be useful for foster carers, social workers, health mediators, school counsellors, psychologists, specialists in non-profit organizations, but also for other professionals working with minors.

AMI Youth Helpline
As part of the project “Focus on Adolescent Mothers: Awareness and Policies,” The Independent Midwives Association has conducted training sessions covering comprehensive information on sexual and reproductive health, contraception, sexually transmitted infections, consent, and the prevention of gender-based violence. These sessions specifically focused on young people, particularly vulnerable groups, including adolescent mothers.
We have reached over 2.800 teenagers and young people, informing them about their sexual and reproductive health rights, and sharing information about AMI Youth Helpline and AMI health services.
We’ve held 38 courses both online and in-person, across 13 counties and municipalities: București, Giurgiu. Galați, Dâmbovița, Vaslui, Argeș, Tulcea, Bacău, Dolj, Timiș, Iași, Gorj, Prahova. Over the course of these training sessions (over 80 hours) led by eight trainers, 467 beneficiaries - young people, including adolescent mothers - have gained knowledge on sexual education, health, consent, and gender-based violence (GBV) management.
To achieve this, we have worked closely with 22 General Directorates for Social Assistance and Child Protection (DGASPC), educational institutions, and foundations across 13 towns and cities: București, Giurgiu, Galați, Cornești, Vaslui, Pitești, Tulcea, Bacău, Pitești, Craiova, Timișoara, Iași, Targu Carbunesti). To sustain these efforts, we have also established 18 long-term partnerships with DGASPCs and educational institutions.
Case management for young mothers between 11 and 19 years old, including providing information and training about sexual health, consent, gender-based violence and safe referral pathways, as well as prevention of multiple pregnancies and abuses for teenage mothers in Romania and scholar reintegration. We’ve provided case management to over 105 teenage mothers, including two critical interventions in cases of severe violence in Timișoara and Tulcea.
So far, we’ve reached 400 teenagers and young people with different contraceptive methods, ensuring that all the teenage mothers whose cases we’ve managed have access to at least a form of contraception – ranging from condoms and oral pills to IUDs and implants.
Additionally, we’ve held three focus groups - two in August 2024 and one in September 2024 - with professionals working with adolescent mothers. These sessions have helped us better understand their needs and have significantly contributed to drafting the Guide for Preventing (Recurrent) Teen Pregnancies, launched on February 14. Participants included community health workers, heads of maternal centers, specialists from the General Directorate of Social Assistance and Child Protection, family planning doctors, health mediators, psychologists, NGO workers, social workers, and legal counselors.
Activities carried out within the project "Focus on adolescent mothers".
